Supercaps using ionic liquids (ILs) as novel electrolytes have gained much attention because of their interesting profiles of physical and chemical properties , such as tunable viscosities and conductivities, chemical and thermal stability as well as large electrochemical windows, and incombustibility at temperatures below their decomposition point. We will report on our recent developments in IL-technology. The focus is on the synthesis and characterization of novel lead structures of ionic liquids for this application. Furthermore, we will present also novel insights in the relation between structure and performance of ionic liquids.
