The granular giant magnetoresistance effect was originally studied in systems with ferromagnetic granules embedded in a metallic matrix. In contrast to previous systems, we have tested conductive nonmagnetic gels as matrices for the Co nanoparticles. Transport measurements with DC current revealed GMR effects of more than 60 percent, which is far above the values in common systems. Furthermore, AC transport measurements were found to clearly improve the long-term stability of this effect amplitude.
