Graphene is a flat monolayer of carbon atoms whose extraordinary properties are to revolutionize the performance of many technological applications. Unfortunately there is very little understanding of how the properties of graphene change in its application environments, namely liquid substances, gases and substrates. As a consequence, a proper characterisation of such a material in its working environment is essential in order to exploit it in industry. Quartz Crystal Microbalance is a measuring technique that enables us to study crucial phenomena occuring at the interface between graphene and other substances such as polar and non-polar liquids as well as their corresponding gases. Our project targets to tailor graphene properties in its working environment in order to effectively exploit this novel material in the development of new high-performance devices that will considerably improve our everyday life.
