In this study, hybrid silica-coated plasmonic-magnetic nanoparticles have been synthesized in one-step by a scalable flame aerosol technology. The effect of the silica in the stability of the nanoparticles, as well as their biocompatibility are examined. Finally, their employments as advanced biomarkers is explored by selectively binding them to live human cells.
