Polymer nanocomposites: an advanced material for functional fibers

,

Keywords: , , ,

The paper illustrates our development in the area of producing fibers from polymer nanocomposites both through melt and solution intercalation route. The polymers studied are Polypropylene, Polyethylene Polyurethane and Nylon. The naofillers used range from nanoclays, POSS etc. The fibers show enhanced mechanical properties such as strength and modulus, thermal stability, fire retardance and improved dyeability at very low loadings of nanofillers. The challenge lies in uniform dispersion at nanolevel and right spinning and post spinng operations to get desired properties.
