Abstract:
We report the synthesis and modification of polyacrylic acid (PAA) monolayers in nanoporous alumina membranes. PAA was adsorbed onto the membrane surface using solution self-assembly to provide 0.5 -1 nm films that are robustly bound as carboxylate groups on the basic alumina surface. About 40% of the carboxylic acid groups are free to undego chemical reactions. Using amine linker chemistry and carbodiimide coupling, estradiol functionality was covaltently linked to the PAA monolayers chemisorbed on the nanoporous alumina. These sturctures were evaluated for binding to enzymes linked with breast cancer. Strategies and results for integrating on the surface of microelectrode array based chemirestitive biosensors are presented.
