Design and Parameters of Cellulose Filter Media with Polymer Nanofiber Layer

Keywords: , ,

Nanofiber polymer layer deposited on regular cellulose filter media usually shifts resulting air filtration parameters of this material several classes higher. Very fine nanofiber web of basis weight of 0.01 gm-2 to 0.1 gm-2 improves filtration efficiency for submicron particles by hundreds of percent, while lowering air permeability by only tens of percent. This evident benefit becomes to be widely commercially accessible due to availability of productive industrial-scale NanospiderTM technology. Influence of morphology of the nanofiber layer (fiber diameter, porosity, fiber shape and orientation) on filtration parameters of the air filtration media has been studied. Preparation method of the filtration media samples and their analysis will be described in the paper. It will be shown that the morphology of nanofiber layer plays usually more important role than its basis weight. Some new physical/geometrical values will be introduced to reflect these relationships.
