Keywords:

The crossover effect from multi- to single-domain particles on the magnetic properties of CuxNi1-xFe2O4 oxides due to grain size reduction to nanometre scale is investigated. The properties of the bulk and nanosized oxide have been studied by x-ray diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetization measurements. The Mössbauer spectra for milled nanosized powders show a combination of ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic behaviour. The coercive fields is found to increase with reduction in grain size for multi-domain particles. For single-domain particles, is observed to decrease with decrease in grain size.
