A serial-type microfluidic chip toward immunoassay-on-chip is reported. The presented chip contains no active microvalves and micropumps, rendering its low cost and disposability. Due to the serial flowing of fluids, minimal control effort is required. Some drawbacks for this type of chips, including back flow and pre-interaction of different fluids, are reduced by several self-generated air-plugs in the chips. The experimental results reveals that the functions required for the chip can be obtained. Multi fluids can transport serially with reduced side-effects, which successfully demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed design. It is believed that the development of the proposed design can provide a practical tool for immunoassay testing, and contribute to the point-of-care diagnostics and basic researches.
