Abstract:
In the lab-on a chips of the future, flows will be handled at the microscale through mazes of microchannels. For such systems, it will be crucial to integrate a number of actuators on the chip so as to achieve flow control. In the present paper, we work with PDMS microfluidic systems, and the actuators are made by using multi layer soft technology; Such actuators are currently used to build valves and pumps. We show here that they can be also used for introducing localized perturbations on the chip, so as to produce interesting functionalities : mixing, extracting, building concentration gradients and controlling droplet sizes and morphologies.
