NanoSPRINT: Intelligent Innovation Tools

,

Keywords: , ,

This paper outlines the trends motivating the NanoSPRINT project: using recent advances in knowledge engineering to provide a new generation of tools for nanotechnology foresight. Today, the foresight paradigm must cope with new challenges emerging from an increased complexity of the technological endeavor to the increasingly complex interactions between the actors influencing the evolution of the field. Nanotechnology only accentuates these challenges through some of its specific characteristics: disruptive technology and interdisciplinary character as well as the pressure coming from considerable investments made in recent years. NanoSPRINT started as a “from within” effort of the scientific community that acknowledges the increased need for foresight but also the challenges associated with integrating it in the day-to-day researcher’s work.
