A novel scanning probe technique for studying the physiological structure and electro-mechanical properties of nanoscale biological systems is discussed. The almost universal presence of piezo response in biological material makes this method applicable to a wide variety of samples including insect wings, human teeth and bone at the molecular, cellular, and tissue levels. We have demonstrated that by using this method one is able to image single molecules.
