NiFe2O4 is an important magnetic material because of its applications in various fields Ferrites are also used in gas, humidity sensor and anode materials in lithium ion batteries. The problem existing in anode material is its capacity fading due to large volume expansion from continuous alloying. This can be minimized by preparing the anode material in active and inactive matrices, which can stabilize the structure by minimizing the volume expansion due to continuous alloying. Controlled crystalline growth is also achieved by incorporating the ferrites in the inert matrix like SiO2 and forms the nanocomposite, which can influence the electrical and magnetic properties of the ferrites. It is very important to study the effect of inert matrices on the electrical and magnetic properties of the NiFe2O4. Hence, in the present work, the effect of SiO2 on the electrical and magnetic properties of NiFe2O4 are studied by preparing the NiFe2O4 in SiO2 matrix through base catalyst assisted in-situ sol-gel process.10% NiFe2O4 – 90% SiO2 composition material is prepared using base catalyst assisted sol-gel process. The complete process is monitored through XRD, FTIR, TG/DTA, SEM EDS and HRTEM techniques.
