The research presented in this paper is focused on combining voltage-based and current-based modes of high-voltage analog signal processing. The research originated from necessity of interfacing a large current-mode processing module inside voltage-mode integrated circuit. Change from voltage-mode to current-mode of signal processing can help to avoid severe design problems. Current-mode circuitry placed inside a voltage-mode integrated circuit must be able to cope with high-swing voltage signals present there. Thus, a high-voltage/current conversion circuit is required. The proposed structure offers interesting set of features and a short signal-processing path. The proposed circuit has been designed and simulated using SOI 0.8um process. All required functionality is achieved with relatively small but efficient function block. The introduced circuitry provides efficient way for conversion of high-voltage signals into current flow. In fact the proposed voltage-current converter in fact merges the conversion operation with post-processing and duplication of the output current. The simplicity of proposed solution is based on fact, that input voltage buffer and specialized output current-mirror are respectively typical voltage-mode and current-mode processing units and can be designed as parts of signal processing units, which are connected solely by a single resistor acting as a U/I converter.
