Nanotechnology companies are facing increasing scrutiny as federal and state agencies adopt regulations and propose recommended workplace practices and exposure standards. In addition, more studies are being released that indicate that some nanomaterials present the potential for environmental and health impacts. These companies and their insurers are looking for tools to ensure that nanomaterials do not follow the same litigation and liability path experienced with materials such as asbestos. This presentation provides an overview of the potential risks faced by nanomaterials companies, highlights the current status of regulatory actions that establish applicable standards against which they will be judged, and provides a system that can be implemented by companies and their insurers to assess, address and manage these risks.
