The effects of nanparticle surface chemistry, size, concentration and distribution on the properties of Pd/polycarbonate nanocomposites was investigated. Interesting trends in electrical conductivity and thermal stability of the nanomposites were identified. These trends were used to evaluate the sensitivity of the nanocomposite films towards the presence SOx and NOx gaseous species by incorporating them into microelectrode array based chemirestive sensors. These findings provide inportant underpinning for the design of chemical sensors using polymer nanocomposites.
