A Technology Summit focused on Asia Pacific Resilience in Honolulu from 19-20 July offers insights and funding for technology to assist the warfighter in the region and to strengthen allied nations.

The Asia Pacific Resilience Innovation Summit (APRISE) is a collaboration with US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Pacific Command (PACOM), Sandia National Laboratories, and Electric Power Research Institute. Hawaiian companies, innovators, sponsors including the National Security Technology Accelerator (NSTXL) and researchers are invited to collaborate with Defense and Energy Innovation leaders at the APRISE Summit & Expo held this year for the first time with the 9th bi-annual Defense Energy Technology Challenges, and the Sandia & EPRI Secure & Resilient Microgrid Design Summit. Through unique partnerships with the military, government agencies, innovators and research institutions, APRISE is a premier event for emergent energy, security, and resilience technologies.

PACOM is challenged by a recent surge of military actions and provocations in its area of responsibility. The Indo-Asia-Pacific region faces what PACOM Commander Admiral Harry Harris has called a clear and dangerous threat in North Korea with its launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles, provocation by China in the South China Sea as well as near the Sikkim-Bhutan-Tibet tri-junction, and the spread of jihadi terrorist groups in the region returning from Iraq and Syria to train local, homegrown, next-generation radicals. This makes APRISE a unique opportunity to address technology gaps that the warfighter currently faces in this region, with new threats constantly developing.

The event features Brigadier General Evan M. Miller, Director for Logistics, Engineering and Security Cooperation, Headquarters, PACOM. General Miller is responsible for planning, coordination, and integration of strategic Logistics, Engineering and Security Cooperation in support of U.S. National Defense Strategy to build U.S. and partner capacities in the region.

U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono will be represented by her State Director Alan Yamamoto, featuring Senator Hirono’s unique role on Senate Committees on Armed Services, Energy and Natural Resources, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Veterans’ Affairs, all of which are engaged in the two-day event and Shark Tank Technology selection challenges at the Hale Koa Hotel, in Honolulu.
