This year, for the first time ever, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) People, Prosperity, and Planet (P3) National Sustainable Design Expo (NSDE) is co-located with the TechConnect World Innovation Conference & Expo. P3 is an annual student-design competition where teams of graduate and undergraduate students from across the country work together to address today’s environmental challenges. These teams received a grant for up to $15,000 to refine their proof of concept and develop their designs. Now, we are thrilled to have the teams take part in this conference and showcase their projects. This conference provides a unique networking opportunity and allows students to showcase their innovative ideas for a sustainable future alongside other EPA programs, government agencies, and advanced tech companies.

Over the past few months, these interdisciplinary teams have been creating projects and technologies aimed at solving pressing environmental issues in the topic areas of water, energy, materials and chemicals, and the built environment. Projects showcased at the Expo this year range from creating filters from algae, coating mulch with activated charcoal to curb urban runoff, and using fly larvae to compost waste. With the world facing increasing environmental challenges, we are eager to learn more about the sustainable technologies that P3 teams are developing while continuing to foster the next generation of scientists.

Come visit the P3 Pavilion to learn more about these student’s projects and see the other innovative technologies on display!
