Winners of both programs to receive unique access to independent product performance testing and industry evaluations in Austin.

This November, Austin, Texas will be host to the Defense Energy Summit (DES), taking place November 11-13, 2013 at the AT&T Executive Education & Conference Center.  The Defense Energy Summit brings together the defense-energy ecosystem, focusing on the needs and solutions of energy providers, project finance sources, early and growth stage companies, defense contractors, military installations & operational leaders, and purchasing agents.

Two Challenge Programs will run concurrently with the DES.  The deadline to submit to is August 8th:

Defense Energy Technology Challenge (DETC):
With collaboration from the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Army National Guard and installation and operational facilities worldwide, the 4th Defense Energy Challenge will deliver top defense-targeted energy solutions matched with military testing and procurement opportunities. Submitted applications will be reviewed and a select group will be invited to present and receive onsite feedback from a high-level panel of Army, Navy and Air Force, utility and investment representatives in Austin. Organizations with defense-related energy solutions submit application (no fee to apply) by August 8th, 2013.

Utility Technology Challenge (UTC):
The UTC is seeking companies and technologies focused on cleaner and more environmentally sustainable energy solutions. The technologies with the best balance of stage of development, potential impact, cost and ease of implementation will be selected to showcase their company, with top ranked solutions invited to present to a panel of utility, military, finance and industry development partners.  Organizations with utility energy solutions submit application (no fee to apply) by August 8th, 2013.

New for this year, Challenge Programs finalists selected to present will receive complimentary access to The Pike Powers Laboratory & Center for Commercialization. The Pike Powers Lab will provide support to the Defense Energy Summit by donating independent product performance testing for companies selected to present at both challenges. Selected companies will also be able to present their product testing results to an advisory panel to assist them in evaluating their technology.

The Defense Energy Summit audience will include stakeholders and working groups building the foundation for a new Defense Energy Center of Excellence.  The focus will be on this proposed initiative and how to accelerate clean energy and infrastructure solutions for the DOD across both installation and operational program needs.

The Defense Energy Summit (DES) is produced by TechConnect, in partnership with the Clean Technology & Sustainable Industries Organization (CTSI), which runs both Challenge Programs.

“The Challenge Programs are designed to address the massive and complex energy needs of military and industry,” said Dr. Matthew Laudon, Co-Chair of the Summit and Executive Director of CTSI.  “The Defense Energy Summit in Austin is a direct extension of both Programs, and with the support of the Pike Powers Lab, we are bringing the most promising energy-related technologies to Austin, a global hub of innovation and investment.”
